AAFD Announces Formation of Mighty Dog Franchise Owners Chapter to Advocate for Franchisee Economic Interests

Enfield, CT – April 23, 2025 – The American Association of Franchises and Dealers (AAFD) is proud to announce the establishment of a new chapter: Mighty Dog Franchise Owners (MDFO). This chapter has been formed by a growing collective of dozens of Mighty Dog franchise owners seeking to foster an economic relationship with the franchisor, HorsePower Brands, that prioritizes the financial success and sustainability of the franchisees.

The formation of MDFO comes in response to a growing concern among franchise owners regarding the economic viability of the Mighty Dog franchise model. Members of the chapter aim to provide a counter-narrative to the information disseminated by HorsePower Brands, highlighting the challenges faced by numerous franchisees across the system.

MDFO members report a significant number of closed and underperforming (“zombie”) Mighty Dog locations, reflecting a disconnect between the franchisor’s claims and the on-the-ground experiences of many owners. Franchisees express that while corporate entities may point to profitable locations, these profits often pale in comparison to the substantial royalties and fees remitted to HorsePower Brands in Omaha.

The primary objective of MDFO is to advocate for fundamental changes to the Mighty Dog franchise model to ensure its economic viability for franchise owners.

Mighty Dog Franchise Owners, under the umbrella of the AAFD, is committed to advocating for fair and equitable economic terms for its members. The chapter seeks open communication and collaborative problem-solving with HorsePower Brands to create a sustainable future for all Mighty Dog franchise owners.
