Congressional Inquiry Requested of Federal Trade Commission Impacting Franchisees
This week, House of Representative members Schakowsky, Jayapal, and Scanlon sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission asking them to look into unfair and deceptive digital delivery practices hurting small restaurants, including franchises. In the letter, they also drew attention to the franchisor/franchisee relationship and that issues relating to that are being “under investigated by the FTC”. This letter serves an important purpose in bringing franchisee issues to the forefront of both the House and the FTC, especially given the fact that Rep. Schakowsky chairs the Consumer Protection & Commerce Subcommittee within the Energy & Commerce Committee. That subcommittee has jurisdiction which includes the regulation of commercial practices, including oversight of the FTC.
